EmpowerHart is an educational and career exploration program dedicated to inspiring and empowering young Black women to pursue careers in medicine, healthcare, and STEM. Our program was created to address the lack of representation and access to opportunities for young Black women in the medical field by providing early exposure, mentorship, and hands-on learning experiences.
Through EmpowerHart, participants gain the confidence, knowledge, and support needed to see themselves as future doctors, nurses, researchers, and healthcare leaders. By introducing students to the world of medicine at an early age, we help them begin building pathways toward meaningful and impactful careers.
Participants in the EmpowerHart program engage in:
While EmpowerHart centers and uplifts young Black women, we strive to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages all participants to develop leadership, curiosity, and a passion for serving their communities.
By investing in the next generation of young Black women in medicine, EmpowerHart is helping build a more diverse, equitable, and compassionate healthcare workforce.
Despite making up a vital part of our communities, Black women remain underrepresented in many areas of medicine and STEM. Limited access to mentorship, early exposure, and resources can make it harder for young Black girls to envision themselves in healthcare careers. At the same time, representation in medicine matters—not only for equity in opportunity, but also for improving health outcomes in the communities that need it most.
When young Black women see healthcare professionals who look like them, share similar experiences, and have successfully navigated the path to medicine, it builds confidence and possibility. Early exposure to medical careers can transform curiosity into ambition and ambition into a clear pathway for the future.
EmpowerHart exists to close this gap. By providing hands-on learning, mentorship from Black women in healthcare, and early career exploration, we help young women see that they belong in medicine, science, and leadership.
Investing in young Black women today means:
When young Black women are empowered with opportunity, mentorship, and support, they don’t just change their own futures—they help transform the future of healthcare.
